Biosphere Reserves Institute

HNEE Internationalisation 2.0

January 2022 - December 2023

A project to revise the internationalisation strategy of the Eberswalde University and build long-term partnerships with universities and biosphere reserves in South Africa and Canada

About

The project "HNEE Internationalisation 2.0" aims to support the development of a new internationalisation strategy at the university and to improve the institutional structural framework conditions in terms of internationalisation. The project enables the Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development to intensify, in an exemplary manner, contacts and relations with like-minded universities in Canada and South Africa.

In this context, project activities aim to establish long-term cooperation in study, teaching, research, practice and transfer with partners from science and practice. Students and staff mobility for practical teaching and learning in Germany and abroad as well as preparatory and support measures are foreseen. The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) promotes the project with funds from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).

Goal

In collaboration with partner universities in Canada (University of Saskatchewan, Vancouver Island University), South Africa (Rhodes University, the University of the Witwatersrand and the Mpumalanga University) and Germany (Leuphana University Lüneburg), a network for practical sustainability collaboration will be developed and long lasting learning opportunities established. Students are given the opportunity to come together to learn in international, transdisciplinary teams in UNESCO biosphere reserves.

As model regions for sustainability, biosphere reserves offer ideal opportunities for students to get involved in cross-cultural sustainability initiatives within the framework of educational programmes. The Eberswalde University can initially draw on existing cooperation with biosphere reserves locally and internationally. The new academic partners also bring in partnerships with biosphere reserves in their surrounding: Cape Winelands (South Africa), Garden Route (South Africa), Mount Arrowsmith (Canada) and Redberry Lake (Canada).
